Mother's Days, Family History, puzzles and cicadas

Time passes much too quickly, and I missed posting last week after Mother's Day.  We had a lovely church meeting, with the youth speaking about how their moms were important in their lives.  We got chocolates and a flower, too from the branch presidency.  Graciella gave out chocolate dipped strawberries, too.  Yum!

The day was actually difficult to get through without crying too much, as it was the first without my own mother.  I looked at her picture, read her words, and really missed her!

We had appointments for the afternoon, but they cancelled.  I think everyone forgot it was going to be Mother's Day when they made the appointments!  So we stayed home.  Did a lot of prep work and worked on our fish puzzle too.

We have asked several people, (in the branch, friends, friends of members, etc.) if they would like to learn about their ancestors.  All said yes!  Since they don't have Internet, and are not good with computers, I've been very busy looking up ancestors.  Jesùs was the first that we did.  He knew very little and I was able to take it back 7 generations on a couple of lines.  He was thrilled!  Another, Sherry, said her sister had the genealogy book and didn't want to spend the money to copy it.  I was right in my assumption that her genealogy was already online and pretty well sourced.  I just had to make a tree and add the information from the other trees.  I made copies of the pedigree charts and censuses thus far to give to her this Thursday.  Another, David, I totally messed up his FamilySearch account as we made a new account for him, but then we found out he already had an account, but it wasn't connected to his correct email or phone number.  SIGH.  We'll get it straightened out this week.

AND we had a non-member couple come to get family history help at the church last week!  Hopefully they'll come again tonight.  I'm hoping to help them find themselves on the 1950 census.

AND we have a new English Connect student, Alfredo!  He is young, and very quick.  We started him on lesson 1 and 2, but realized he already knew this stuff.  We skipped ahead to lesson 11 and 12 and now he's learning a little.  He knows most of the vocabulary still, but we are trying to make his English more precise.  He learns quickly.

John is converting the English Connect lessons into Power Point Presentations.  He sends the finished lessons to another set of missionaries each week, and they've said it has really upped their lessons.  We plan on doing that for all the Level 1 lessons and making them available to the whole mission before we leave Texas.

For about a month no one came to our classes on Monday or Tuesday in Lockhart.  Now we've had people come each of the last several weeks!  Yay!

We finished the 2000 piece fish puzzle the day after Mother's Day.  It was such a fun puzzle!  We started a 1000 piece puzzle of Texas Bluebonnets yesterday.  It's so nice when you can actually fit all the puzzle pieces on the table!

We walk about 5 miles each morning and we try to walk to different places.  We are marking on a map all the streets we've walked on.  Yesterday we walked by a gorgeous house, with a spectacular fun yard.  A woman was out watering flowers so we stopped to talk to her.  Ends up she really wants to know how to search for her ancestors!  She said, "You were meant to walk by here today!  God wanted you to."  (Or something quite similar.) We gave her a card with the information on it, so hopefully she'll come soon.

Sometimes on our walks we pass over bridges.  We saw 2 turtles in the streams this week!  Super fun!  Also on our walk one day we passed a just-emerged cicada.  Weird, but cool!

It is getting warm here, but thankfully it is still in the 70s when we go on our walks, at least so far.  Today's high is supposed to be 97, but we started our walk when it was only 69.  Very pleasant indeed.  Love our walks

Two of the cemeteries we've passed recently.

On to another busy, busy week!  Tomorrow is Zone Conference, about an hour away.  It is fun to see all the Sisters and Elders and Pres. and Sister Fox.  Very uplifting!
