Around town, meeting members and friends

We've been a bit busier this last week.  We had appointments almost every night.  One of the assignments the sister missionaries had was to teach English classes.  It takes so much time to prepare, and they were very excited to hand over that assignment to us!  We were given 3 laptops from the stake to start Family History Connect.  We are going to start both of these this week!

We will also be doing Family History Connect (just one on one helping others with their family history) in the Lockhart building once a week, starting next week.  We may be starting English classes here in Lockhart, too.  We are pretty excited to get this going!

We have been taking daily walks around town, trying to go in different directions, unless we need to go shopping, so we have found some fun places.  Many more to find!  Lockhart is full of old LARGE houses, probably old plantation houses, and some are kept up super nice.  I love them!  We found the old jail, and the courthouse, (it's the "new" courthouse, built in 1895), still functions as such.  Lots of antique stores, (and in Gonzales, too!), and about 4 BBQ places.  Lockhart is the "capitol of barbeque."  We went to Black's BBQ today.  It was pretty good, and I'm sure we'll be going again.

This week we accompanied the sister missionaries or Sister Flores to several part member and non-member families, and helped teach lessons or share a gospel message.  It was really nice.  It seems like all enjoyed our visits.

I am understanding more and more of the Spanish language.  Of course, because I don't talk much during our interactions, they often ask me to say the closing prayer.  I need to practice more!

The weather was interesting this week.  We had highs of 81, and then today back down to a high of about 53.  But spring is on the way.  The trees have started to bud, and my allergy medicine is being put to good use.

Halfway between Lockhart (our apartment) and church (Gonzales) is Luling.  My cousin 1x removed lives there and we visited him after church on Sunday.  It was fun meeting up!

We love it here!

Elder Bell and I in front of our church building (rented.)

My cousin, Allen Anderson.
The courthouse!  Gorgeous, isn't it?!

Gotta speak the right language here!

A tree full of red-winged blackbirds!  They were noisy!

An old high school for blacks before desegregation.

The old jail.

Just one of dozen of beautiful old huge houses!

Another of my favorite old houses.

Evidence of armadillos in the area.  This was flat and dried.

Cattle were being transported.  See if you can spot the long horns!

Pink on the trees!
