March and spring flowers, etc.

Image
Last Saturday I took my camera (not attached to my phone) on our walk.  I found plenty of fun and beautiful things to take photos of!   The flowers on this bush remind me of lilacs, but they smell more like roses.  Lovely! Spanish moss!! The small lake at Lockhart city park. Plenty of ducks and geese live at the lake. The cemetery is adjoins the city park. Lots of wildflowers! Texas Bluebonnets! This was close to the cemetery. Up close of the Bluebonnets. A stream.... perhaps Plum Creek. Turkey vultures are very common. Northern cardinal.  We see lots of them.

March passed so quickly!

We have been busy.... am I saying this too much?  Maybe, but every week we seem to be a little more busy!  For instance, today we had a meeting in Lockhart at 10:00, (we walked the 1 1/2 miles), then had an appointment in Gonzales at 2:00 (40 minute drive), then after that we went to the Luling library (20 minute drive) to see their genealogical society section.  Then we went from there to Cedar Creek (35 minute drive), then back to Lockhart (35 minutes) to go to the chapel there for Family History instruction.  During the drives we reviewed lessons, and we were able to eat breakfast and lunch at home.  About 2 hours 10 minutes in the car in one day.  Whew!  What a day! (But not too unusual.)  It's nice now to relax for a little while.  Tomorrow we will drive to the other side of Austin for Zone Conference, then in the evening we will be back in Gonzales for a dinner appointment and our English class. Spring has definitely come to Centr...

English, English and more English!

We had a very successful week setting up locations and dates for teaching English Connect this week!  The Lockhart libary was very excited, and showed us several rooms we could choose from to have our weekly classes.  Super great.  They wanted to wait for a few weeks so there would be time to "advertise."  So we will be starting at the library on April 18th.  Super cool.  And it's not only English, but also Family History Consultation.  Each day we teach English for one hour we are also going to be available to help others with Family History for one hour. Once we start at the library, our schedule will be: Monday 5-7 at the Lockhart library. Tuesday 6-8 at the Lockhart church. Thursday 6-8 at the Gonzales church. Fridays...... we think...... we are taking over a Zoom English Connect.     Right now we are doing Wednesday at the Gonzales church, and since we are starting over again for the Thursday classes, we may be...

Spring is coming to Texas

Image
Although it has been cold (lows in the 20s for many days), the weather is starting to warm up and we are seeing more and more signs that spring is coming!  Some of the trees have green "halos", others have pink flowers, the daffodils are blooming and warm air is coming!  Tiny pink blossoms in front of our apartment. Most of last week we had to wear sweatshirts AND coats on our morning walk.  Today was a sweatshirt only day, and we even had to tie them around our waists by the end, as it was getting so warm.  A very welcome change. One of the things we have noticed on our walks and drives is that almost every palm tree we see is dead.  We found out that last year they had very deep freezes (pipes bursting, power outages, etc.) and that 90% of the palm trees died here in central Texas.  So sad!  We were very busy last week.  We had appointments almost every day.  We have an even busier week this week.  We are starting to teach the En...
