Greetings to all on Memorial Day!

Greetings to you on Memorial Day! Hubby and I spent the morning perusing the cemetery and talking to people there. We expected it to be crowded. Not so. The people we did find were really fun to talk to and we learned a little about each of their families. We told them we were available to help find ancestors (through FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com ) and gave each a card with our hours at the library and the church. We "decorated" our car. No one parked or walked by it, and no one took cards from there. We saw a total of 8 families/persons in the cemetery, and we talked to all but 2 of them. They were too fast: pull up, put flowers on grave, stay for a minute, then go. We couldn't get to them. All the others were very pleasant. We talked to a widower for probably 10 minutes, found out all about his wife and his mom and step-dad whose graves he was visiting. One couple we talked to said he was on FamilySearch already, but was very interested in learning mor...

Mother's Days, Family History, puzzles and cicadas

Time passes much too quickly, and I missed posting last week after Mother's Day.  We had a lovely church meeting, with the youth speaking about how their moms were important in their lives.  We got chocolates and a flower, too from the branch presidency.  Graciella gave out chocolate dipped strawberries, too.  Yum! The day was actually difficult to get through without crying too much, as it was the first without my own mother.  I looked at her picture, read her words, and really  missed her!   We had appointments for the afternoon, but they cancelled.  I think everyone forgot it was going to be Mother's Day when they made the appointments!  So we stayed home.  Did a lot of prep work and worked on our fish puzzle too. We have asked several people, (in the branch, friends, friends of members, etc.) if they would like to learn about their ancestors.  All said yes!  Since they don't have Internet, and are not good with c...

Friends at church!

The husband of one of our members is not a member of the church.  They live a long ways from the church and the family has not been participating fully.  They live closer to us, so we have been visiting with them.  We have met with and taught the husband and children a couple of times now.  SUPER family!  We invited them to church last week and they came!  We were super happy to see them.  The husband said he enjoyed it.  Hopefully they will continue to come. :-) Our sister that had surgery last week is now back at home.  The Elders Quorum got organized and a floor was repaired and a ramp built to accommodate a wheelchair.  This family lives in Bastrop and although they speak Spanish they also speak English well.  The Bastrop ward has adopted them, and she has unofficial ministering sisters.  We are thinking that they will do well to transfer to that ward, since a 15 minute drive is much more likely than a 1 hour drive.  W...
